We think I am pregnant but not exactly sure all signs point that way and I have a doc appointment,so hoping!!So I would like to make a baby granny square baby afghan blanket.I have just recently past couple of months learned to crochet and I like the idea of making a large granny square baby blanket and beause Im rather new at it the sooner I start one the better!! But I am having a mental block as to what colors to use.The colors need to be neutral colors for either boy or a girl. I like the idea of either turquoise or sapphire with a choclate brown but am not sure if that is to girlie? If anyone has any ideas or could reply I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!

Green in several shades would be pretty for either sex....or beige & yellow of different shades...is very neutral...OR wait til you know, you will still have enough time to make the afghan. They are not that big.

Yellow, orange, and green are good neutral colors for a baby. Dark colors might not be a good idea b/c you'll want to be sure of the color of spit up and the like. Something in white would work well. So that's 4 good colors to choose from. Good luck!

Look at a color wheel, especially one that has multiple levels of hues, so that you can visualize the "in between" colors at the tertiary & beyond levels. One of my favorites is Peacock Blue, which has a bit of green in it. Pair it with golds or light yellows in a ratio aspect of something like 2 parts Peacock to 5 parts gold/yellow. This is, of course, one pairing I like a lot. However, you may be drawn to others. Remember that an opposite color can be either the highlight or main color, depending on the level of hue (light to dark.) Infants' accessories tend to be more appropriate on the light side for practical & health reasons, so use darker shades as your accent color. You are not just limited to 2 colors, however. The basic rainbow in medium or light hued shades is perfect for babies! It would be best displayed as the accents on a white background. The Turquoise with Brown sounds a little dark, although stylish. You may wish to use a Light Turquoise with light shades of Yellow, for example, or Terra Cotta accents, which marries Brown to Red shades, and can be light or dark in hue. But use that color wheel! Or go to the Pantone page: http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/index.aspx

Good luck! You may find yourself making more than an afghan after viewing hundreds of shades and hues :)

The colors you've listed above are fine. The baby will be under it but not wearing it, so you have more leeway with color.
