Question:
I am never satisfied with anything creative I write. How can I change this?

I am not really a writer. Though I have always been proud of my ability to write succinct and clear reports, creative writing has always been a weakness of mine. Reports simply need to contain any and all pertinent information. Preferably with as little reading as possible while still conveying all the facts. Creative writing however, tends to be rather boring if presented this way. While creative writing is not a skill I have any immediate need to develop, I like learning new skills. Since this one seems particularly difficult, I feel I could learn a lot in developing it. The only problem is, I am so underdeveloped in this skill that I am reluctant to submit anything I am capable of for criticism. The flaws are so obvious to me that I can criticize it myself... Shy of seeking formal education, how can I improve on this skill?

Chances are, you will never get over that, you'll just learn to live with it. That's the case with many writers.

I find that the more I'm into what I'm writing about -- the topic, the story, the idea -- the less I obsess over the writing itself, and the less judgmental I am about my writing. Good luck!

Stretch your creativity by writing something you wouldn't normally want to write. Go into all different kinds of genres and styles. One of my instructors had us write our own eulogy and epitaph. That was a bit mind-blowing to me, but it gave me some perspective on the more morbid areas of creative writing.

As you your reluctance, you absolutely have to get over that. The only way you'll grow as a writer is to learn from your mistakes. The only way you'll know what mistakes you're making is to have someone point them out to you. Most teachers are already aware that you're not already a Pulitzer prize winning author, and as such, any criticism will be constructive. They want to help you, but you have to let them do so, or they simply can't.

Your a very much in your face type of person and into realism, creative writing requires an imagination which you obviously have don't play down your obvious quality.Go for your skill, but you already know that I think YOU Just like to hear it. Your very ominous and want to remain that way. Shock factor. That's your forte.

Well, I don't know much about writing, but you can try writing down your dreams first thing in the morning, and then go from there? Dreams are always unpredictable, and it's a great way to tap into your inner creativity! Hope I helped.
